On 13 September, LKCMedicine hosted 22 teachers and Educational Career Guidance Counsellors from schools, junior colleges and polytechnics across Singapore for an Engagement Session.
Held at the Clinical Sciences Building (CSB), Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs Professor Pang Weng Sun warmly welcomed the guests and introduced them to the School’s MBBS programme, innovative curriculum and the admissions process. During his talk, Prof Pang highlighted in particular, the School’s pedagogical focus on critical problem-solving through the Team-Based Learning (TBL) approach. The session sparked a lively conversation as teachers and counsellors were interested to learn more about the student intake and admissions process, especially the BioMedical Admissions Test and the Multiple Mini Interviews.
The visitors then had a chance to see the custom-built learning spaces and experience the School’s TBL first hand. The tour started at the Anatomy Learning Centre, where Head of Anatomy Assistant Professor Reddy Mogali introduced them to the School’s approach to gross anatomy teaching. The visitors then visited the Practical Skills Lab, where Senior Assistant Director and Lead for Practical Skills Ms Ramani Saravanan gave an overview of the clinical methods course, which is integrated throughout the five years of the curriculum. Having seen some of the bespoke-built spaces, it was time for the teachers and counsellors to step into the shoes of students with an interactive TBL demonstration.
The tour concluded with a stop at the Medical Library on the 20th floor, where the visitors marvelled at the modern library and studying facilities as well as the panoramic view of central Singapore.
