Introduction

Associate Professor Josip Car, MD PhD DIC MSc FFPH FRCP (Edin), is the Founding Director of the Centre for Population Health Sciences and Chair, Health Services and Outcomes Research Programme at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, the Director of the Global eHealth Unit at Imperial College London, and a practicing physician. He works or has worked with the World Health Organization, OECD, World Bank, the Global Fund, Singapore Ministry of Health amongst others. He is a Board Member of the BMC Medicine and Journal of Global Health; an Editor of the Cochrane Collaboration and Acta Dermato-Venereologica.

Assoc Prof Car has a track record of blending academic, policy, management and clinical work. He served in a range of roles including as a Director of Public Health and Primary Care and lead director for integrated care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Director of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Primary Care Research Network and co-director of NIHR Comprehensive Local Research Network for London (NW), Medical Director and Chair of a Professional Executive Committee of a healthcare commissioning organization, Primary Care and Research Adviser to the Editor of the BMJ, a director for the Imperial GP Specialty Training, a member of International Advisory Board for City of Rotterdam, etc.

Assoc Prof Car's key skills, knowledge and results areas include: digital health, mHealth, digital learning, clinical leadership, primary and secondary healthcare services commissioning, health system innovations for quality improvement (e.g. integrated care), and investigation of management of long-term diseases.
Assoc Prof Car has published over 170 scientific articles and led or co-led more than 50 research grants that attracted multi-million research income from a wide range of national and international funding bodies and industry.
He has received for his work distinction awards, such as the BMJ’s top ten reviewer, Department of Health & NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement: London regional health and social care award for primary care and community based integration; and is regularly an invited speaker at international conferences.
