Professor Pang Weng Sun

Professor Pang Weng Sun (MBBS, M.Med Internal Medicine) is the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Population Health) of the National Healthcare Group and the Executive Director of the new Geriatric Education and Research Institute. He has previously completed two terms from January 2005 to June 2011 as Chairman of the Medical Board for the Alexandra/Khoo Teck Puat Hospitals. He is on the Board of Directors of both the Agency for Integrated Care and the NUS-Duke Lien Centre for Palliative Care.

Prof Pang is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in the UK. He trained in geriatric medicine in City Hospital in Edinburgh and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK. He was previously a consultant geriatrician in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the former Head of the Department of Geriatric Medicine in Alexandra Hospital. He was the former President of the Society for Geriatric Medicine from 2001 – 2007.

Prof Pang currently continues as a Senior Consultant Geriatrician in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He chairs the Specialist Training Committee for Geriatric Medicine. His area of interest is end-of-life care in the elderly. He is accredited in Palliative Medicine and he is a visiting consultant to St Luke’s Hospital. Prof Pang has contributed geriatric expertise to many community services and worked with the Ministry of Health and various voluntary agencies in eldercare and palliative care. He was a recipient of the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2005.
