Associate Professor Leow Yung Hian
MBBS, M Med (Int Med), FAMS (Dermatology)

 

Dr Leow graduated in Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1986. He qualified as a dermatologist in 1996 and is currently Senior Consultant with the National Skin Centre. 

He was awarded the Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship by Ministry of Health Singapore in Dermato-immunology (contact dermatitis) in 1995 and received further training in Contact Dermatitis at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA, and University of California San Francisco, USA, in 1996.

At the National Skin Centre, Dr Leow co-chairs the Quality Assurance Committee which oversees Quality Improvement and Patient Safety issues within the Centre and serves as the Assistance Director, Clinical Governance of the Centre.  Dr Leow led and facilitated successful Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and subsequent re-accreditation of the National Skin Centre from 2007 to 2013 every 3 years.

Dr Leow plays several roles in the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Dermatology Residency Programme, which trains future generations of dermatologists by serving as one of the Master assessors, member of the Clinical Competency Committee and Programme Evaluation Committee. He also serves as a member of the Residency Advisory Committee (Dermatology) which is appointed by the Specialists Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health.   

Dr Leow is passionate about student-centred learning and is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, medical officers and residents as well as visiting overseas fellows. He had been a clinical senior lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, since 1997.  He also serves as one of the Core Clinical Faculty Members for NHG Dermatology Residency Programme.  He has published numerous articles in both local and foreign peer-reviewed scientific journals and has co-authored many chapters in dermatological books.

Dr. Leow was the past President of the Chapter of Dermatologists (2013-2015) and past President of the Environmental & Occupational Dermatological Society of Singapore (1999-2001, 2005-2012). He was the recipient of the Long Service Medal, National Day Awards (2014),  NHG Outstanding Citizenship Award (2010) and National Skin Centre Service Champions Awards (Silver 2016, Gold 2011).
