Lead for Chemical Pathology



Associate Professor Robert Hawkins MBChB, MD, MHealSc, FRCPA, FFSc(RCPA) is a Senior Consultant in Chemical Pathology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), a 1400-bed multi-specialty hospital in Singapore. He is also Visiting Consultant at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Lead for Chemical Pathology at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

He graduated from the University of Auckland in New Zealand in 1986 and trained in Chemical Pathology in Auckland before attaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1992. He then worked as a Consultant at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland for 4 years before moving to Malaysia to work for Gribbles Pathology.  In 1998, he was appointed as Consultant Chemical Pathologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and has been Visiting Consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital since 2000. He holds postgraduate diplomas in heath management and heath informatics as well as a masters degree in information science and a research MD. In 2012, he was elected to Fellowship of the Faculty of Scientists of the RCPA. He has served as President of the Singapore Society of Pathology and Vice President of the Singapore Association of Clinical Biochemists and has published over 60 research articles and reviews. His interests include pre-analytical quality, laboratory statistics and evidence based laboratory medicine.
