Lead for Gastroenterology

Assistant Professor Stephen Tsao is a consultant in the Gastroenterology Department of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  He underwent undergraduate and postgraduate training in the UK, and obtained his Fellowship to the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, UK) in 2012.  He was awarded a research grant of US$115,000 from Broad Foundation in 2005, and most recently the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Research Fellowship in 2010 where he spent 3 months at Gastroenterology Division University of Kobe Hospital, Japan learning advance diagnostic endoscopy and ESD. 
After Assistant Professor Tsao completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology in the UK, he moved to Singapore in 2008.  He has a special interest in small and large bowel disease, in particular inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer, and endoscopic treatment (ESD) for early gastrointestinal cancers.  Assistant Professor Tsao is an expert in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and is leading the video capsule endoscopy service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  He also has a keen interest in teaching and developing endoscopic skills of trainee specialists.  Assistant Professor Tsao has a postgraduate diploma in medical education from Staffordshire University UK.  He is a keen teacher and strong believer in educating the next generation of doctors and raising public awareness on various medical conditions.
