Lead for Microbiology


Assoc Professor Prabha Krishnan MBBS, MD, Dip NM(Micro), FRCPath, DTM&H (Lond) is a Senior Consultant in Microbiology and heads the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), a 1400-bed multi-specialty hospital in Singapore. Currently she is also the Deputy Head of the National Public Health laboratory under Ministry of Health, Singapore, and the Lead for Microbiology at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Having started her post-graduate training in paediatrics, she later specialised in clinical microbiology and worked at St. Johns Medical College Bangalore, India where she was actively involved as a teacher and examiner for both undergraduate and post-graduate students in microbiology. Prior to joining TTSH in 2003, she worked in Clinical Microbiology at the University College London Hospitals, UK where her focus was on infection control and undergraduate training, in addition to clinical microbiology. She is a member of several academic bodies and areas of her special interest include multidrug resistant pathogens and nosocomial infections. Working closely with infectious disease physicians, A/Prof Krishnan participates in several research and training projects in the country and the region. She has effected a number of programs to improve liaison between the laboratory and clinicians and the rapid communication of critical results.

A/Prof Krishnan is also a keen advocate of all aspects of patient safety including reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections in hospitals. As a faculty member of the NHG and TTSH’s Clinical Practice Improvement Program, she helps in the training of hospital staff and post-graduates from various restructured hospitals and polyclinics in clinical quality and patient safety.
