Since his graduation from National University of Singapore 1991, A/Prof Tan Thai Lian has always been very passionate about care of the older persons. He joined the Geriatric fraternity in 1997 and spent 1 year in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre (UPMC), Pennsylvania, USA, where he was mentored by a prominent Geriatrician in the States, Dr Neil Resnick. His special area of interest includes helping frail older persons with urinary incontinence, as well as the different models of care that would benefit the frail older persons. He held the position as the Head of Department of Geriatric Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hosipital from 2007 to 2014. He also served as the Clinical Director of RenCi Hospital for 3 years before stepping down early 2013. Currently, he is appointed as the Chairman of Division of Medicine in TTSH. His other past and current professional responsibilities included holding the positions as President of the Society for Geriatric Medicine, Singapore (2007-2011), Vice Chairman of Chapter of Geriatricians (2007-2011), Chairperson for the Geriatric Medicine SRS Training Committee (from 2009), and the Program Director for the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine, Singapore (2004-2015). At the National level since 2014, he is the Co-Chair for the National Geriatric Services taskforce which look at the service and care plan for the frail elderly in Singapore.
