Lead for Ophthalmology

Assistant Professor Johnson Tan, MBBS, MRCSEd (Ophth), FRCSEd (Ophth), FAMS, is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He graduated in Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2002.  Upon completion of his specialist training in Ophthalmology, he obtained his fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.    He was awarded the Ministry of Health Training Scholarship and underwent further sub-specialist training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, which is consistently ranked the top eye hospital in the United States.  His clinical expertise includes corneal transplantations, treatment for keratoconus and refractive surgeries.
Assistant Professor Tan, a keen researcher, is currently an Adjunct Clinician Investigator with the Singapore Eye Research Institute.  He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and has presented his work at both international and local conferences. He was an award winner at the 32nd Annual ASCRS Film Festival Awards in 2014.  He also played a major role in setting up of our tele-ophthalmology service in 2009. 
Assistant Professor Tan has a passion for training and education.  He oversees all undergraduate teaching curriculum at National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  He is the Lead for Ophthalmology with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Clinical Senior Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
