Associate Professor​ ​


Dr Tavintharan, MBBS (Singapore), FRCP (Edinburgh), MCI (NUS), FAMS (Endocrinology), graduated in Medicine from National University of Singapore in 1989. He is a Senior Consultant in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), and is a Specialist in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He actively contributes in the area of Medical Education is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and also oversees postgraduate medical education in his institution as Associate Designated Institutional Official in charge of Residency Program.

Dr Tavintharan has a particular interest in management and caring of patients with diabetes mellitus, and is the endocrinologist overseeing the Diabetes Foot services in KTPH. He has a sub-specialty interest in Lipidology and is consultant in charge of the Lipid Clinics. Keen in clinical research, he obtained a Master of Clinical Investigation (NUS), and his research interests include diabetic foot syndromes, and the study of molecular markers (riboregulators and metabolites) to predict and understand the pathogenesis of common metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus. He has been lead investigator of a number of research projects, funded both from National Medical Research Council as well as from AHPL. He is the Deputy Director of Clinical Research Unit in KTPH, and is involved in collaborative research, including that with the Departments of Biochemistry, as well as Epidemiology and Public Health from NUS, SERI, NUHS and National Healthcare Group. He also serves in the Scientific Review Committee in NHG-AHPL and chairs the Research Subcommittee for the Clinician Scientist in Residency for the NHG-AHPL Graduate Medical Education Committee.
